Approach to design
My approach to design.
Design is fundamentally about communication. It all starts with a message or goal, which we designers transform into visually creative works that can help improve or benefit a business' day to day.
During my time at University I became very fond of design thinking methodology and framework - I use these techniques in all projects big or small to create well considered designs.
01
Ask questions
For any project it is key to start by asking questions. There is no such thing as too many questions when trying to get to know a client, the goals and inspiration behind them. Listening to the people you are working with create a deeper understanding of not just the what, but the who, the how, they why. These conversations will gear the project to success, not only in delivery, but for the people you are designing for.
02
Empathy is essential
EMPATHY = I feel with you, not with sympathy or pity, but by analyzing and collecting information, to discover and re-frame understanding. We need to lead with this sentiment to create meaningful innovation for design not just for the now but beyond.
03
Trust the experts
DEFINE with people who know. We know only glimpses of different industries as designers. We have a specific skill-set to translate ideation into a visual language that interests the intended audience. Our clients are the ones who know the audience, impressions and key knowledge which we may not have - this is where multi-disciplinary collaboration creates beautiful, thoughtful projects that matter.
04
User Experience matters
IDEATE no matter the project, thinking with the audience in mind is what I believe makes projects standout and create impact. Ideation and exploration is the practical side of the creative process, especially once you've listened, empathized & learned we can continue to test the theories to make projects even better for final delivery.
